Agapanthus Festival

With the days drawing out as we head towards summer, now is the perfect time to celebrate the colourful & iconic plants of British cottage gardens.

At Otter Garden Centres, we’re thrilled to continue our plant festival series with our Agapanthus Festival, celebrating their dramatic & colourful blooms. The tall, attractive flower spikes showcase stunning shades of purples, blues and white, providing long lasting colour from early summer to early autumn.

Agapanthus, also known as African Lily, first arrived at our shores in the mid-to-late-17th century after being brought from South Africa to Europe. Since then, they have become a staple of gardens in the South and South West thanks to our mild climate, and will flower year after year.

At the heart of the festival are our Otter Grown Plants—locally cultivated with care and a commitment to sustainability.

A feast for Pollinators

Agapanthus are more than just beautiful additions to your garden—they’re also an essential source of food for pollinators.

Their flowers are rich in nectar, providing a vital energy boost for bees, butterflies, and other insects throughout summer.

By planting these flowers, you’re creating a haven for wildlife, helping to support local ecosystems, and contributing to the health of your garden.

Plus, watching pollinators at work adds an extra layer of joy to your outdoor space!

Happy Plants, Happy Gardens

Plant in a sunny location with well-drained soil.

While relatively drought-tolerant, agapanthus will benefit from watering in dry weather.

Use Sulphate of Potash in spring and early summer for abundant blooms.

Pairing Perfectly

Combine with lavenders and roses to create displays of contrasting colours.

Hardy geraniums are great for colourful ground cover beneath agapanthus.

Locally grown with care!

Our Otter Grown Plants are cultivated locally using sustainable methods. This year, we’ve grown all our agapanthus plants under glass for the first time, making them hardier, even more vibrant and will ensure they thrive even longer!

It also means they will flower earlier, adding colour and elegance to your garden for an extended season of enjoyment.

Come and experience our Agapanthus Festival for yourself!
